(Insights on New York)

New York is a city that never sleeps.
New York is a city that people easily fall in love with.
New York is a city of disillusionment[幻灭] and contention[竞争].
New York is a city of many neighborhoods and cultures waiting to be explored.
New York is a city unlike any other...

This picture was taken on my way to cover the Mermaid Day Parade, a procession of mermaids, magicians, street entertainers, and performance artists held every June in Coney Island to herald the summer solstice. I caught this scene with the blow-up legs coming out of the vintage car a few blocks from the starting point of the parade and somehow knew it was going to be another interesting day in New York!

New York is a city of extremes, of hyperbole. ... In the case of this image, I wanted to represent New York in a tongue-in-cheek, fanciful way. As a city known for entertainment and sports, these seemed to be just the right icons. The Rockettes are a quintessential New York symbol, and here they are surrounding a big, bulky ice hockey star [Mike Richter of the New York Rangers] with Central Park as the perfect backdrop. Juxtapositions like this unfold naturally here.

Neither snow, nor sleet, nor freezing rain was enough to keep Robert Burck, a street performer known as the Naked Cowboy, from singing in Times Square.

On St. Patrick's Day, everyone is Irish, as the saying goes. In New York, it's no surprise to find bagpipers from Tokyo marching in the annual parade.

Wollman Skating Rink in Central Park provides a striking view of New York's skyscrapers. The 843-acre (341-hectare) park is a natural gem tucked inside Manhattan's concrete jungle. Besides ice-skating, New York's residents and visitors can bike, jog, ride horses, picnic, and attend free outdoor concerts—weather permitting.
